Graduate Management Admission Test

GMAT

Gaining entry into a top US business school is the aim of many Israeli students. One of the questions most frequently asked is: "What can I do to improve my chances of acceptance?"

One of the most effective methods is to obtain a high score on your Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). In fact, it is an accepted fact that the higher your GMAT score, the better your chances of acceptance to the school of your choice.

As a result, many institutes have sprung up that offer GMAT Prep Courses whose aim is to help you achieve a score in the 90th percentile – around 700.

How does a good GMAT prep course prepare you for your GMAT test?

To begin with, as befits any college course and especially a business school, proficiency in English and Math are vital prerequisites and any good prep course will ensure that you reach the highest possible standards in both areas before you take the test.

However, on important area that the GMAT test examines is the candidate's ability to draw conclusions and make decision based on less than full data. In fact, in the real world of business, executives and managers are often called on to make decisions when they have less than 60% of the relevant information available.

This in not just an issue of intuition or guesswork, but rather an exercise in the careful consideration of all the available data. However, the GMAT test adds an added twist – the time factor! With only an average of two to three minutes to answer a question, students need to read, absorb, consider and decide quickly, just as in the real world of business.

A good GMAT prep course will also help you in learning how to analyze available data and from the data to draw informed conclusions and decisions.

Preparation for your GMAT test is very important. It is possible to study alone with the aid of a GMAT course book or study manual. Ideally you should set aside at least 60 hours for GMAT preparation.

Another, and preferable track, is the GMAT prep course. Courses are designed to help you absorb and assimilate all the information and skill required for a good GMAT score. Many courses are modular and some, the better ones, allow you to retake modules that you feel weak in. Another advantage of prep courses is the fact that you are learning from experts, from teachers who have been through the GMAT process. They provide you with their knowledge and insight to help you be in the top 90 percent.

Whichever track you decide to take – the best of luck!
